(shown here is President Barack Obama by Pablo Cano)
Last week I attended Pablo Cano’s sold out show “Seven Wonders of the Modern World” at the Museum of Contemporary Art in North Miami (MOCA) and was just mesmerized at how Pablo’s found-object marionettes come to life on stage. Unfortunately, you can’t attend this performance because it just ended (to back-to-back sold out performances) but Pablo Cano informed me that the marionettes from the show are available for viewing by appointment by contacting him or you can get in line for next year’s show which is already in the planning stages and will mark the 13th year of MOCA showing his work.
Pablo is shown here in the center holding hands with the Playright of Seven Wonders on the left, Carmen Peláez and on the right, Katherine Kramer, Choreographer of the show.
After the performance artist Pablo Cano signed copies of his book “Pablo Cano – Full Circle” which are available for purchase from his website or the book shop at MOCA.
I was fortunate enough to be invited to the cast party after the final show at Luna Star Cafe (a great cafe with live music 7 nights a week!) which is directly across the street from MOCA. The cast is shown here:
I first met Pablo when I did a portrait of him last summer and got a private tour of his house which is really a museum of his work – amazing marionettes everywhere. Images from my portrait session are located here. If you haven’t seen his work, I highly recommend checking it out.
