Peacocks in Coconut Grove!

One of the pleasant surprises I encountered when I moved to Coconut Grove is frequently crossing paths with wild peacocks.

The history of peacocks in Coconut Grove is interesting: “Among the first permanent settlers in South Florida were grocers Charles and Isabella Peacock who arrived in Coconut Grove encouraged to establish a hotel. Their hotel, built in 1883, was called Bay View House and was the first hotel on mainland Florida south of Palm Beach. Later renamed the Peacock Inn, the first community gatherings in Miami were held at the Peacocks’ hotel.”

The peacock shown here was on the roof of the building where I live in i.e. yes, peacocks do fly.

Have you seen the peacocks in Coconut Grove?
