American Literature – “The Teacher” by Robert Crotty

“The Teacher” a novel by Robert Crotty

Last week I received a wonderful surprise on St. Patrick’s Day.  A novel my father had written 47 years ago had finally been published.  In 1967 my father took a sabbatical from teaching and went to live in Ireland with my mom and older brother for a little less than a year.  During that time he wrote a novel about, “…a conflicted everyman in 1950s America.  The story describes the personal and professional conflicts of quirky members of a large second and third generation Irish clan of primarily educators.”

My dad talked often of his novel which had never been published until my uncle Bill and aunt Mary helped see this to completion.

Published by Piscataqua Press, the jacket cover art is by Irish artist Vincent Crotty.

It is available from River Run, an independent bookstore my Father frequented in Portsmouth, NH, or also on Amazon here.
